Mailani Chang, M.S.

Clinical Psychology Intern

Mailani Chang is a licensed counselor with decades of experience supporting children,

adolescents and families in our community. A Japanese native, Mailani came to Hawaii during

her high school years to pursue her passion for music, art, and dance. Mailani subsequently 

completed her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling with a work emphasis on family therapy focussing on children experiencing academic challenges including those with ASD.  With a rich multicultural background, she is honored to work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds and remains dedicated to nurturing personal growth through compassionate and collaborative care. 

Currently pursuing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Mailani is completing her clinical internship at Honolulu Psychology Collective. Her therapeutic foundation is rooted in Rogerian, Person-Centered approach, which deeply values the humanistic and existential components of healing. Mailani incorporates both ancient Eastern and Western philosophy into her practice while embracing neuropsychology and evidence-based therapeutic strategies. She blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques with the thoughtful inclusion of music, art, and play in her practice to meet the unique needs of each client.

Married into a Hawaiian family, Mailani deeply respects indigenous values and traditions including those which honor kupuna, ancestors and elders. Mailani values each individuals’ unique story and firmly believes in every person’s inherent capacity to reach their full potential. She particularly honors the power of nature and celebrates the innate human capacity for healing and growth.
