Thought Field Therapy

One of the favorite tools I share with clients is a simple practice called “tapping” or Though Field Therapy (TFT). It is a non-traditional approach to reducing emotional overwhelm resulting from traumatic experiences. All I can say about TFT is that it works! It works for practically everybody… people of all ages, cultures and ethnic backgrounds…and if it doesn’t work it won’t hurt you.

This approach was originated by Psychologist, Roger Callahan in the early 80’s. TFT is a blending of three modalities: acupuncture, chiropractics and psychotherapy. It works with the bodies meridian lines targeting major organs that are said to hold various energies, ie: lungs hold sorrow, heart holds anger and so on.

I use TFT because it is fast, easy and anyone can do it anytime and anywhere once they familiarize themselves with the tapping sequences needed. There are tapping sequences that one can tap for a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma or pain. TFT is referred to as Tapping because the individual using it will need to “tap” on various parts of their face and body in a sequence as they recall the uncomfortable memory of the disturbing or traumatic event. Prior to beginning the tapping sequence the individual will be asked to rate their level of discomfort from 1 to 10 (1 being none and 10 being worst). The goal of tapping is to get the number to go to 1. The therapist guides the client through the tapping sequence modeling for the client how to tap on themselves while the client keeps in mind their story. Throughout the tap the client is asked to breathe deep and follow the therapist. Close to the end of the sequence the therapist asks the client to rate their level of distress by recalling the memory and noticing how their body feels. Again they rate the number and ideally it should lower significantly. The client can either chose to continue tapping in an attempt to get to 1 or be satisfied with where they are. The therapist then taps through the closing of the tap and patient is asked once again to check in and in one word tell therapist how they feel. Patients come out of this process relaxed, calm and able to discuss their feelings, tell their story will less fear and anxiety. They can use tapping at home or out in the world to relieve their uncomfortable symptoms. I invite you to come in for a tapping session, guaranteed you won’t leave the same.
